What a lot number tells you, and why it should match your COA

The small code on every vial is what connects your product to its test report. Here is what a lot number is, and how to use it.

Every unit we supply carries a lot number. It is a short code, easy to overlook, but it is the thread that connects the product in your hand to the report that tested it.

    What a lot is

A lot is a quantity of product made in one run, under the same conditions. Because every vial in a lot was produced together, a test on samples from that lot describes the whole lot. That is why certificates of analysis are issued per lot, not per product.

How the lot number links to the COA

The lot number printed on the label should appear, exactly, on the certificate of analysis. When the two match, you know the report you are reading describes the product you are holding. When they do not match, or the report has no lot number at all, the report does not tell you anything about your product.

Why it matters for your brand

When your name is on the label, your clients will ask you questions, not us. Clear lot records let you answer them with confidence:

    • Which report covers a given unit
    • When that lot was tested, and by whom
    • Which orders included that lot

    Keeping good lot records

A simple habit goes a long way. When an order arrives, record the lot numbers you received and file the matching COA with your order records. If a client ever asks about a specific unit, you can find the right report in seconds.

Match the lot on the vial to the lot on the report, every time.

    What to expect from us

Each unit carries a lot number on its label, matched to its own certificate of analysis. Registered partners can request the COA for any lot through their dedicated contact. You can see where the lot number sits on a report in our annotated specimen on the COA and purity page.
